The hardness of Ipê on a plank that can be glued to a slab: sawn Ipê wear layer over a cross-laminated core, prefinished and ready to install.
Ipê (Handroanthus spp.) is the densest commercial species in Brazil, better known in the US for decking and boardwalks than for interiors. As flooring it gives a deep olive to chocolate brown floor that resists dents, pet claws and commercial foot traffic better than any domestic species. The engineered format makes it practical in the markets where most US flooring goes down today: concrete slabs, condominiums and wide-plank designs that solid Ipê cannot serve.
